Setting up and using offline courses in Easy Content Builder

Getting the most from non-eLearning content like classroom training and events

At Upskill People, we know that not all learning is done online. Learning takes a range of forms, from in-person training days, video conferences, to webinars, because in the end variety is the spice of life!

But with all these different types of learning, it can be difficult to keep track of all the different formats, likely stored in a range of places. It becomes tricky to see how people are progressing through their learning journey as you end up trying to put together all their learning like pieces of a puzzle. You don’t want to spend hours finding registration lists or test sheets from various people and departments just so you can see how one person is doing.

So, we have an easy and effective solution for this. You can input all your offline learning and events on our platform, meaning that they will also be reflected in the data and reporting. You can have a person’s entire learning record in one central place, avoiding the time and effort of collating all the different bits of information. We’re all about saving you time and energy!

Being able to input your offline courses and events will really help in establishing a blended approach to your learning. What’s a blended approach we hear you ask? This is where different elements (like images, videos, and reading lists, etc) are brought together to maximise the learning being delivered. It’s bringing together every element of learning at the right level and at the right time, with the goal being not just to convey knowledge but to teach new skills and change behaviours. Having well designed blended learning will drive home what you’re trying to teach and best equip your learners.

But a word of warning! Don’t just copy and paste an offline workshop or presentation into an online course. You may think this is a quick or easy fix, but different learning is geared to different mediums, so a presentation probably won’t translate well into an online course, and vice versa. You need to make sure that any learning is geared to the format you’ve chosen to use.

How to create offline content

First, go to your Courses menu and pick + Create Course:

All that’s needed is to add some course details:

… and a thumbnail and banner image:

Setting up and using offline courses, alongside your online ones, really is as easy as that!

What else you could do that adds value

After setting up your offline course and assigning it to the relevant learners, you will then need to set the course as ‘complete’ in order for it to show up in your reporting and completion statistics. This is what we call a ‘forced pass’, and it basically involves a platform administrator logging in and manually completing courses for people.

You’ve now created an offline course, and your reporting will show that people have completed it, but have you thought about how you could prove that this course has truly added value to your business? One way to do this is to create a companion, online, course using Easy Content Builder with a short summary of the takeaway points (perhaps include the course notes as a PDF for easy reference) followed by a short, robust quiz that confirms their understanding. Be sure to include an end of course survey to capture people’s feedback as well as thoughts and ideas on improvement.
